We All Just Need to Relax
By Garrick Sapp

The Naming Commission sure put a big scare into a lot of us. To think that a memorial in a cemetery to dead Americans and peace created by a great Jewish artist faced destruction is silly. There is no way the US Government would allow such a thing.

Based on the lack of information over the last month from Republican representatives it must be the case that there is nothing to worry about. Senator Wicker’s office has not responded to my several inquiries because they have it handled. My thinking about how I wish there was no 17th Amendment so the Mississippi State Legislature could apply pressure was stupid. Our federal representatives always do the right thing.

My thoughts about writing a nasty essay and revealing the names and email addresses of the staffers I emailed on Monday was a demonstration of my lack of character. That I called and left messages for both gentleman this morning and did not get a call back, nor a response to Monday’s email shows they are busy with the people’s business. They must have this Arlington National Cemetery thing handled.

There are 995 proposed amendments to the NDAA, and I don’t see anything about funding for the destruction of the memorial Moses Ezekiel created. There is no way they are going to disturb his grave. He was a world-famous Jewish artist afterall. Everything is fine. I am sure it is that I just can’t find the amendment that “now and forever protects the Confederate Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery”.

Everyone needs to relax. When has the federal government ever let us down? Like Lincoln said we have a “government of the people, by the people, for the people.” Don’t you know democracy considers the rights and wishes of a minority even when it contemplates destroying art and history? Our democracy is strong!
