Before you hate me for saying self-improvement is a scam,

Let me tell you why I'm saying this.

"SELF-IMPROVEMENT" is not what most of us think.

I started my self-improvement journey 3 years ago, when the COVID pandemic just hit the world.

It was a time of lockdown when nobody was allowed to go out.

I was a fat kid, weighing around 198 pounds (90kg) at 5'7 (height).

Extremely unhealthy, super anxious, depressed, and unmotivated.

I hated going out and meeting people; even a slight interaction with others would make me INSECURE.

I just used to spend my entire day playing "games online."

I was kind of aware that it was bad for me, but I still never tried to fix it.

I even STOPPED interacting with my family because I was so indulged.

I was in a BUBBLE (a comfort zone), and it seemed impossible to get out of it.

My conditions made my family SICK of me.

They got tired of complaining all the time.

I also felt TERRIBLE, literally in my worst state.

Then I thought maybe improving myself would be the best way to "fix my life."

I really wanted to change my current circumstances, but due to a lack of motivation, I never took any action.

After struggling with this for days and months,

Then comes the TURNING POINT of my life.

My 12th grade was completely gone to waste due to the pandemic.

The world was still recovering from the atrocities of COVID.

One of my "OG friend" showed up and did something.

We used to talk a lot about improving ourselves.

He was the one who motivated me to join a "GYM."

Initially, I was like, Okay, I know I want to do it, but I am too lazy to do so.

My father was really happy about me showing an interest in working out and improving myself.

He used to look really masculine and fit when he was my age, and he wanted me to do the same.

A few days later, after overthinking for a while, I finally decided to go to the gym with my father.

When I was walking towards the gym, I had this weird feeling inside of me.

A word that could perfectly describe this very moment would be:

"PARNOID" (feeling extremely nervous as you believe that other people do not like you or are trying to harm you).

But despite having a lot of insecurities, I still successfully made it to the gym.

Now, I knew that I had to quit being LAZY and start showing up every single day.

During that time, I started consuming some self-improvement stuff online.

Then I explored many self-improvement YouTubers,

Like Hamza, Andrew Tate, Iman Gadzi, etc.

They had a massive cult following on YouTube.

TBH, I really loved their content; I learned a lot from them.

Their videos really hooked me longer than any others ever did.

I started consuming their content every single day.

If I missed their content even for a single day, I used to regret it a lot.

They became my kind of big brothers or mentors when I really needed one.

And they taught me many valuable lessons about life.

So now you might ask:

What is the problem, then? How is this a scam?

Yes it looks like there's no problem but,

There is a very BIG PROBLEM.

See, when you start consuming this sort of content,

You don't just consume the content; you create imaginations and fantasies from it.

You idealize a similar lifestyle.

I am not saying that is wrong, but there's a PROBLEM with this approach.

And that is losing the sight of REALITY.

There is a hormone called DOAPMINE that releases from your body when you do something pleasurable.

By watching these kind of content, you encounter dopamine quite early before even doing the ACTUAL thing.

It's like MASTARBATION (Pleasuring yourself by the imaginary future outcome).

So, what you should be doing is to take a PAUSE.

SELF-REFLECT!

Let the things process in your head.

And then start to take some ACTION.

Start wherever you are and start small.

Taking actions is way important than just bombarding yourself with content over content.

Your brain has its capacity, don't overfill it.

Fill your mind with:

-BOOKS

-LEARNING

-SOCIALIZING

Empty your mind:

-LONG WALKS

-JOURNALLING

-MEDITATION

Use your mind:

-FOCUS

-WRITING

-CREATION

There's a whole ocean of content available on the internet.

That's why it is so important not to get LOST in it.

So instead of just binge watching self-improvement content and making your life more miserable by comparison,

Just start implementing!

If you want to write a BOOK

-Build a writing habit

If you want to get an aesthetic physique

-Get balanced Nutrition, Consistent Workout and Proper Rest.

If you want to start a business

-Identify what you wanna solve, do it in public and distribute on various platforms.

Don't overcomplicate it.

You have all the resources just utilize them properly.

And you are good to go.
