Welcome! I write for talented professionals in their 40s and 50s who feel like a round peg in a square hole and are looking for a career makeover.

Your impressive resume and accomplishments are not enough to land the job. Here's why.

Hard skills make you qualified.

"Superpowers" make you unique.

Here's a great example:

At age 47, after 2 decades of coaching high-school leagues as a side gig, a good friend of mine had his big break as a full-time coach with an NHL team.

I asked him how he had finally landed his dream job.

First came the obvious answers, such as referrals, grit, deep knowledge of the sport, and track record as a coach. But there was one particular attribute that stood out. It's a "superpower":

His ability to manage big egos.

Guess where else it's key to manage big egos? That's right... professional sports.

As a high-school coach, my friend spent years working with a large swath of wealthy, entitled teenagers and their high-powered parents.

As a result, he developed a sharp sense of awareness and a toolkit to deal with volatile tempers, loud personalities, and people who are seldom told to sit down and shut up every now and then.

His hard skills got him in the running. His "superpower" landed him the job.
