Day 6: The Best Piece Of Advice I Was Given About Education

When I was 16 years old, a mentor of mine gave me an unforgettable piece of advice.

I was frustrated and lacked interest in, and had been running myself into the ground, killing my motivation while trying to achieve the academic performance and workflows to support that performance as a high achiever.

I was making a lot of mistakes and resorting to practices that I knew wouldn't be great for the long-term process I wanted to achieve with my education.

These mistakes included poor note-taking, poor revision and summary note-creating, little studying or spaced repetition, and poor planning and execution with assessments and more. I didn't read many books, if at all, and I found it hard to relate external information to my studies at school.

I would then score a fairly good result of 75–90%. This would add to my frustration as I knew it was underachieving!

Until one day, my mentor, who was a very special and wise friend of mine, said to me:

"Sometimes learning and how you handle the education load is an individual process that requires you to do things a little differently to shine and achieve."

That day, my whole life changed forever.

What did I do differently?

I changed the way I worked with the information presented to me. I used electronic devices in the classroom and did it my way.

Modify the environment and how I work in that environment!

I changed the rules behind electronic devices and gained permission to freely use my devices at school and build my own process of education and learning for myself!
