My son is learning to read. He's in kindergarten, and the way his brain works fascinates me.

Kids' growth in general is incredible to watch. The speed with which they adapt to the world is mind-boggling. Our neighbor is just shy of 10 months old and just learned to walk this weekend.

Stop and think about that for a moment - 10 months ago he couldn't breathe on his own and now he is walking independently. In only 10 months! It's incredible.

Watching my own kids is the same. The things they learn in such short amounts of time... It's incredible.

So to watch my son go from not understanding what letters even are to reading entire board books in a few short months amazes me.

When talking about reading, it's difficult to articulate that grey, learning area. The space between not knowing how to read and comfortably sitting down with a novel in hand is... unclear. It's not a yes or a no, it's a process.

The thing he says often, though, is one of my new favorite phrases.

"I can read, and I'm learning how to get better."

This growth mindset is inspiring to me. His understanding that he's learned the basics but has a long way to go is how I feel about a lot of things in my life.

So I'm accepting this as my new life motto.

I can be a parent, and I'm learning how to get better.

I can work out, and I'm learning how to get better.

I can run an online business, and I'm learning how to get better.

I can heal, and I'm learning how to get better.
