A cup of tea can refresh your mind when F5 key on keyboard can't.

The above quote from Manish Kumar Tiwari refers to what is probably the best known of the keyboard function keys. It is also the one I use the most. Although the rest are not the most used, a brief review of the function keys could not be missing.

If you want to squeeze the juice to what your keyboard can do for you.

Function keys in your keyboard (1): F1-F6

The function keys occupy the top row of the keyboard.

In addition to those mentioned below, there are some additional extra functions for programs from the Microsoft Office suite or the Operating System itself.

  • F1: Open help screen or redirect to a dedicated help section or page in most programs

  • F2: Rename a selected icon, file or folder in MS Windows

  • F3: Open the find tool in GDocs or the search bar on browsers and Windows File Explorer

  • F4: Open the address bar in an open Window / Close the current page or program / Repeat the last action in most programs / Alt+F4: Open the shutdown menu on the desktop environment

  • F5: Refresh the page, desktop, folder content, or window

  • F6: Highlight the address bar and tab in the active page on Chrome and most other browsers
