How many times did you day end with you feeling you weren't there? As if the people and events of the day were completely alien to you?
6 steps to reconnect with yourself through the senses
You can experience the world through your senses in a calm and relaxed way. You don't need much time to reconnect with yourself on a daily basis You may well start by practicing for just 5 minutes.
All you need is a quiet place, where you won't be disturbed.
1️⃣ Getting ready: Get into a comfortable posture, with your back straight.
This way you will allow the flow of energy through your body. Briefly check your body from the feet to the head. Detect and release any tension that may be present
Get ready to take a wonderful walk through your senses.
2️⃣ Your body: Feel the weight of your body.
Start by noticing the sensation of your body touching the chair or cushion. Pay attention to the soles of your feet resting on the floor, to the contact of your arms on their support. Feel the contact of the clothes on your body.
Enjoy a few moments of these sensations.
3️⃣ Sounds: Now focus your attention on the sounds that come to you.
Observe the variety of sounds that surround you. Do not judge or classify them, just listen to them. Pay the same attention to them as if you were listening to a symphony.
Stay in this listening for a few moments.
4️⃣ The air: Now turn your attention to the ocean of air that surrounds you.
Observe the sensations in the points of your body that are exposed to the air, naked, like your face or your hands. See if you feel the air warm or cold. Notice the sensations of breathing at the tip of your nose.
Is there any difference in temperature between the air you breathe in and breathe out?
5️⃣ Your eyes: Finally, direct your attention to the visual field in front of you.
Pay attention to the colors, shapes and textures of the environment. Do not classify neither enclose in a name-concept the objects you see, just look at them. Use this perception as an artist would, leaving aside the habit of labeling objects.
Enjoy this clean vision for as long as you like.
6️⃣ Going back to where you came from: Now take a few deep breaths and, little by little, slowly mobilize your hands and feet as you return to your usual state.
Hope you enjoy this practice, I encourage you to repeat as required.
