What is 3D Visualisation?

3D visualisation, otherwise referred to as 3D graphics, 3D rendering and CGI (computer-generated imagery), is the process of using a computer to generate 3D representations of real-life objects or persons.

How is 3D visualisation used?

There are many ways in which 3D renderings are used, and not limited to real estate brochures, video games or architecture visualisation like Grand Designs (if you're a fan). However, it goes far beyond your typical industries like advertising to deep fake. 

3D renderings are very important in the entertainment industry, with many companies needing to use 3D visualisations to bring their ideas and movies to life- think Shrek.

Why is 3D visualisation sometimes preferred?

It gives you the creative control to visually communicate different creative ideas and enables you to experiment with different styles and materials. In other words, you can contextualise your design in the real world before they're built or manufactured.

How to create photorealistic renders:

There are many different resources and software to get started with 3D visualisations. 

3D visualisation software Blender is the most popular and good place to start. Blender allows you to create 2D and 3D images, post-processing and rendering.  

Start with a simple product like a bottle or pot - these are referred to as "hard objects". "Hard objects" are much easier to practice with and are more straightforward than creating a human character or a sculpture. 

As with any skill, this takes time to master but practising for at least 4 hours a day could see you becoming a 3D digital artist within a couple of months.
