In 2020, on the cusp of founding my current startup, a content creation company I'd been building since last year, I went into a deep brain fog spiral, unable to be productive for months. When the brain fog subsided, I still had issues with my mood- irritated, upset, and agitated most days.

After going on an elimination diet, I discovered that my weekly takeaways (processed food) were causing many issues. Not only did I have brain fog, but I also experienced chronic mood swings, which almost cost me close friends and family, new company and everything I cared for in the world.

Prof. Brian Peskin, researcher and professor specialising in nutrition stated the following:

"Eating fried food every day for 28 years makes you 86% more likely to develop cancer than a chain smoker; smoking two packs of cigarettes for the same duration with only 16% chance of developing cancer..."

3 foods you should cut out from your diet:

  1. Refined carbohydrates

White bread, breakfast cereals, sweets and snacks are associated with brain fog, restlessness and diminished focus. They're also linked to many health issues, including cancers, Alzheimer's and diabetes.

  1. Highly processed foods

French fries, burgers, sausages, and crisps, to name a few, are packed with harmful oils, sugars, salt and other additives. According to Mr Dave Asprey, one box of french fries increases inflammation for two days- worse than a cigarette, which only causes inflammation 4-8hours.

  1. Sugary drinks

Energy drinks, fizzy drinks and concentrated fruit juices have copious amounts of sugar, which increase the risks of heart disease and diabetes. It also contributes to memory impairments and has adverse effects on the brain.

It's never too early to start taking care of your health. Start small, and best of luck!
