When I was 24, I decided to pursue a career in IT.
Of course, whenever we set goals in life, life tests us. And I was no exception.
These were the 2 most difficult choices I've ever made—and both directly impacted my dream of becoming a front-end developer.
Hard Choice #1: Escaping the Grind but Delaying the Dream
Being an apprentice electrician offered financial stability, but it felt like a betrayal of my long-term goals. The work environment was rough, with extended hours, physical hazards, and a culture clashed with my personality. After saving for six months, I enrolled in a front-end development course to pursue my passion for IT. It was a bittersweet goodbye, leaving the security of the job for a new path ahead.
Hard Choice #2: The Immersive Grind - Pushing Limits for a New Beginning
The front-end development course lasts a half year, with intense 12-hour days, six days a week, and a long daily commute. Learning new coding languages and design principles was exhausting but exhilarating. Despite the challenges, I completed the course equipped with the skills to start my career in front-end development.
The tough choices led me to where I am today - a front-end developer at a great company, working on exciting projects. The journey was challenging, but pursuing my passion makes it worthwhile.
