3 Books Every New Grad Looking to Work in Tech Needs to Read
Sarah Bojorquez Lopez

Over the past several years, I have read tons books on the subject of Career Advancement for new graduates in the tech industry.

Unfortunately, most of them were a waste of time. They could have easily been blog posts, or even newsletter emails.

Instead, I encourage you to give these 3 a read.

They're well worth the time.

Book #1: The Tech Career Playbook by Terrence Yang

This book is a great place to start if you are just moving into the tech world. It's like your personal coach for navigating the tech industry. Yang packs it with advice and strategies tailored specifically for people starting out in the tech world. He covers a wide range of topics, from networking and personal branding to planning out your career path and acing job interviews. Plus, he peppers the book with real-life examples and practical tips, making it easy to understand and apply the advice.

Book #2: Cracking the Coding Interview by Gayle Laakmann McDowell

This book was recommended to me by a previous mentor and it is full of great advice.

For new grads entering the tech industry, particularly those interested in software engineering roles, this book is a must-read. It offers comprehensive guidance on preparing for technical interviews, including coding challenges and algorithmic problems commonly encountered in interviews at major tech companies.

This book is more than just theoretical. These are actual questions I have seen hiring managers use, and it gets into the why of the question, not just the answer.

Book #3: The Lean Startup by Eric Ries

Finally, I think everyone should read this book.

While this book isn't solely aimed towards getting ahead in your career; it's like a guidebook for creating thriving tech businesses and awesome products. It talks a lot about trying things out, improving them bit by bit, and making sure you're learning the right lessons along the way. These skills are super important for anyone who wants to do well in the tech world

While not as chock full of info as the books above, this video:

is a great resource for anyone looking to ace a technical interview.

Have you read any of these books, or are there others you think would be more useful for a new grad entering tech? I would love to know what you think!
