I'm all about niches.

When I first starting my tutoring business, I focused on English as that was my specialist area. But I never considered why it was such a good thing.

What I've learned since then is that having a niche gives you an edge.

Why?

It establishes authority

Having one area that you're specialising in (no matter how small) boosts your credibility and establishes you as an authority figure.

Students and parents are much more likely to trust and seek out tutors who have a deep understanding and extensive knowledge of a specific field.

For me, it's become my work with students in China. This now makes up 75% of my business and I know what Chinese agents are looking for. It gives them confidence in my abilities and shows them I know what I'm doing.
