And no, it's not the hero's journey. It's essentially a structure composed of multiple curves and dips split into three parts:

The rising action
The climax
And the falling action

Now let's put this into YouTube terms.

The rising action will consist of your typical hook and your initial main setup.

Write a compelling hook that sets up an interesting question, problem, or situation that will be addressed and resolved by the end of the video.

Note of caution: Make sure that this delivers on the packaging promise you made to the viewer (i.e. the title and thumbnail).

Next, the rising action will be a development of multiple setups in which you progress through the main content of your video.

For example, if you have an educational video you could introduce concepts that will lead up to understanding the final point. On the other end for entertainment, this could be a series of challenges or setbacks that build upon each other.

Now comes the climax, where you deliver on the promise of your hook and setups. You provide the solution, reveal the surprised, or conclude this interesting story you've been telling and leading up to. This should be the most engaging part of your video.

Lastly, we have reached the falling action, aka the conclusion of the video.

Provide any additional information that stems from the payoff and resolve any and all loose ends. There is no need to reiterate the entire video.
