The grass is always greener on the side that’s fertilized with bullshit.

1. No man is a prophet in his own country. An expert is always from out of town. It’s easier to convince people that you’re special if they don’t know you well enough to see all the ways you’re not.

2. Everything is sales. Everyone is trying to craft an image of who they are. The image helps them to sell themselves to others.

3. Almost everything looks better from the outside. Instagram is full of beach vacation photos, not flight delay photos. Resumes highlight career wins but are silent on doubt and worry.

4. Most things are harder than they look and not as fun as they seem. What most of us see most of the time is a fraction of what has happened, or what’s going on inside people’s heads. And it’s stripped of all the hard parts.
