Fear of what others might think has been a barrier to taking action. But there is an important choice here
You can act and risk been judged or you can do nothing and be ignored.
This is an interesting paradox – we all want to be recognized. Yet, fear of being judged restrains us and stops us even considering options in life.
You will be judged (or you will be ignored). Those are pretty much the only two choices. Being judged is uncomfortable. Snap judgments, prejudices, misinformation… all of these, combined with not enough time (how could there be) to truly know you, means that you will inevitably be misjudged, underestimated (or overestimated) and unfairly rejected. The alternative, of course, is much safer. To be ignored. Up to you. (Seth Godin Blog, 2012)
It is strange, isn’t it, that we become so concerned with what others might think about our actions. Why is that more important that honouring my own desires?
What fears are holding you back from going after the life that you want? Please don’t choose to be ignored.
