In college, I learned how tough things can get if I do not plan out what work I have for the day.

About three years into my UnderGrad, I started daily journaling, which changed my life. Laying all your thoughts out in front of you makes all the difference.

You no longer need to spend 30 minutes figuring out what you should be working on on a given day. Once you lay down all your thoughts, it is easier to create to-dos and begin working immediately with a fresh mind.

The three-stage process to a productive day:

1/ Type your thoughts down.

Typing all your thoughts down into an app of your choice is best done early in the morning, right after waking up. That's when your mind is fresh and free of bias.

Feel free to talk about things that need to be done in the future. The sooner you get your thoughts laid out, the better.

Once you get good at laying out your ideas on the screen, look for a term called Zettlekasten. It will change your life.

My app of choice for this phase is @logseq.

2/ Create tasks from your thoughts.

Find the work from the thoughts that you have just jotted down. Add it to your task management app of choice. These tasks will have a deadline of today. If there is some future work, you may enter a different deadline.

I prefer using @NotionHQ for all my tasks and dynamic workflows.

3/ Get started.

After creating tasks, you can start working on finishing them. Since you have already thought everything out and have a clear mind now, you will be able to be way quicker.

Make some time for yourself once you complete the work for the day. This practice will payout in the long run with habits that last a lifetime.
