Salmon Tastes Delicious and Serves as a Great Protein for Meals
Sofia Martinez

When looking for protein, most people choose chicken or beef, overlooking the benefits of fish. Fish actually have such amazing nutritional benefits for our body for example, they have a lot of vitamins like Vitamin D and even B12 (which is what we get from meats!), they are also packed with calcium and minerals that your body needs like iron, magnesium, potassium, etc.

All a Simple Salmon Dish Needs

All a simple salmon dish needs is the salmon of course, a base like rice or quinoa, and vegetables on the side! That’s all! My mom showed me this meal and it tastes so good. We buy our salmon from Aldi’s where it is already seasoned with a “Mediterranean Herb” seasoning. All you do is put it in the oven for the designated time. You make the rice/ quinoa to your desire and for the vegetables, roasting asparagus is a very popular side for this dish. What my mom does is cut zucchini and squash, season it, and then toast it for a bit in the oven. We also love to add potatoes into it, but that is obviously up to you!

Salmon vs. Chicken or Beef

Compared to beef or red meats, salmon has lower cholesterol levels and saturated fat. For those who don’t know, a high amount of saturated fat can affect your arteries and cholesterol and higher a risk of heart diseases, but of course, that’s only with an abundance of saturated fat. Even though, chicken and fish are very similar in nutritional benefits, fish has a higher amount of omega-3, which protects against any cardiovascular diseases!

Chicken and beef are still great sources of protein, but we should appreciate fish and the different things you can do with it! Try incorporating it into your next meals!
