The bottom up and organic approach to organising in Obsidian makes use of backlinks.
These are the links that are two way and you can see what connects from a note as well as to it. But that's not the only thing you can do with backlinks alone. So far just using backlinks as they are with the double square brackets, [[]], means just connecting note files with note files.
But there is more you can do that takes things a step further.
The first of these is the embedded link.
Embedded links are often used to show some form of media with regular links in Obsidian and many other apps. But embedding can also be done with backlinks. The character typically used for embedding is the exclamation mark, !.
When you put that before a backlink, so ![[]], this not only links to the note within but will actually display the entire note within the note you are in.
This can be very handy when it comes to having all information available to you and accessible, and especially keeping a single source of truth in a place to keep updated.
The next two types of additions to backlins that really deepens connections is connecting to headers and blocks.
This means instead of making a link to an entire note, you get more granular and link to a specific header in a note or block of text. For linking to a header you use the hash symbol, #, and for specific blocks of text it is the carat symbol, ^. Within the double square brackets at the end of the note name type either # or ^ to bring up a list of the headers or blocks in that note respectively.
Using this method you can also make internal links within the same note.
