Widgets

Widgets here mean the Apple widgets on iPhone and iPad that can appear in the home screen. This is a way of customising so you have more than just app icons and can add useful information and quick access to trigger something in an app from that screen. You add by going into edit mode (holding down finger on the home screen), and selecting the plus symbol at the top right and go through process of selecting and setting up widgets of various sizes.

Making Applets with Widgets

To make an Applet appear as a widget for use on the iPhone you need to choose one of the widget services. These all have trigger options specifically set up for widgets. They used to be separate apps available on the store to independently be used as triggers, now there is a single IFTTT app.

The services available are Button widget, Note widget and Camera widget. Each has a trigger and available as a widget to add to the home screen. Button is a simple control trigger, note presents a text field box to enter a note when triggered and camera runs your camera app to allow you to take a photo as part of the trigger.

Profile Settings

In the profile part of the app, reached by choosing your profile image in the top right, there is an option to choose widgets. This section of profile settings will list the possible widgets you can create from your applets. With each one listed you can configure them by selecting the widget and being presented with the option to show or hide in Widgets, enable use with Siri and whether to show on the Apple Watch or not.
