I recall the moment my soul found its anchor.

It was as I sat in my parents living room at age 20 reading a letter written almost 2000 years ago.

I had recently had a conversation that pulled the rug out from under me. Prior to that I would have sworn my soul was anchored. I knew exactly what I believed.

However, now, everything I thought I knew was in question. My understanding of God and the truths I held to lay in rubble on the floor.

In desperation I picked up the bible and read this:

The Son is the image of the invisible God. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

The light dawned. My image of God, my religious box, broke because it was small.

Not only my ideas, but any ideas about God are too small. I felt my soul steadied as it found its mooring.

Not anchored by dogma or doctrine or ideas of right or wrong, but tethered to one who reached beyond infinitely and eternity.

Anchored to one who exceeds my highest ideals and imaginations and reaches to a place where knowledge fades and faith alone can go.

My image of God got updated. It was painful. It was worth it. It goes on.
