Invest Your Time In Your Children

Susan G.S.Abel🌻writer/journaler

It's my 100th essay in 100 days!

I started to write a profound piece about all I've learned while writing the past 100 days.

I'm sure I have words of wisdom to impart as I embark on my third Ship 30 for 30 cohort.

I changed my mind.

My granddaughter came to spend the night for the first time.

She's four and fun. We stayed busy. All. The. Time.

Memories of being a young mother came flooding back.

It seemed like I never had time to do anything when I had young children. As a grandparent, I make time to do everything.

Children are always doing something.

Coloring. Drawing. Pretending. Painting. Cooking treats. Dancing. Blowing Bubbles. Collecting acorns. Reading books. Telling stories. Making up games to play.

Yes, we did all of that.

My son and his wife have raised a very self-sufficient little girl, but it's not all playtime.

I remember eating cold meals often. It's still true.

It seems the need to potty strikes during mealtime. Grandpa wasn't to keen on that duty. (Pun intended.)

Let's not forget interrupted sleep.

My granddaughter woke up once. My crazy dog woke up three times. He has appointed himself chief protector and worrier over her. Grandpa wears earplugs.

The non-stop playing, cold meals, lack of sleep made for a memorable weekend.

I wouldn't have it any other way. I can't wait for the next.

I have the fondest memories of spending time with my grandparents.

I hope I'm making some fond memories for my granddaughter.

All I have to invest is time.

Maybe my essay has imparted words of wisdom.
