Day 5: You don't need to be tough to be resilient. You need this.

There are many books on resilience. And I've read a lot of them. However, my favorite is "Rising Strong" by Brené Brown.

For a few reasons:

  • It reframes failure as the entry point to growth. So much better than using failure as proof that I'm weak or unworthy!

  • It emphasizes emotional honesty over emotional toughness. Resilience is naming what hurts, sitting with discomfort, and telling yourself the truth.

  • It gives a repeatable framework — the “Rising Strong process.” Best of all, it works in both personal and professional contexts.

  • It connects resilience to storytelling and meaning-making. Resilient people ask, “What’s the story I’m making up here?” That simple question helps separate fact from assumption and turns pain into perspective.

  • It blends research, real-life stories, and raw humanity. Reading it feels like a conversation with a wise friend.

If you are at all interested in resilience, I can't recommend this book enough.

(And if you've read it, do you agree? What other book would you recommend for beginners?)
