I teach music creators how to earn more money without working more hours.

#5: This Is The Best Book I’ve Ever Read On Music Licensing
by Sebastian Watzinger

There are not a lot of books about production music and how to get your music licensed.

And I've read them. Most of them, anyway.

But the best book on licensing your music and library music I've found is The Business of Music Licensing by Emmett Cooke.

For a few reasons:

  • Reason #1: It gives the emerging library music composer a great overview over what music licensing is, how to get started and how to generate the most revenue from your tracks

  • Reason #2: Emmett himself is a very successful library composer and scored placements with some famous shows. So you can learn from someone that is in the business. Basically your personal mentor.

  • Reason #3: It is packed with actionable advice and tips so you can get started pretty much right away.

  • Reason #4: He does not only cover the artisitic side of the business. He goes deep on how to approach a publisher (with actual scripts for your emails).

  • Reason #5: I love that he includes a section on how to increase your revenue from your tracks. And this pretty much is what I am preaching every time I talk to a music creator.

    • Find the gap

    • Fill that gap

    • Repeat

If you are at all interested in licensing your music through library, I can't recommend this book enough.

And wether you are just starting out or already in the game, this book was my entryway into understanding production muzsic and the opportunity it holds for my business.

(And if you've read it, do you agree? What other book would you recommend for beginners?)
