I Declined a National TV Expert Spot with a Daytime Emmy Award Talk Show Host! - The Decision Process for Leaders and Entrepreneurs
Cody Dakota Wooten, C.B.C.

Many Leaders and Entrepreneurs DREAM of the day they are asked to be an Expert on a National Television Show.

The idea of being in front of millions of viewers on TV. Having someone ask you in front of all these viewers about YOUR expert opinions. Being able to show that clip to potential customers PROVING your expertise!

It's an even tastier proposition when the host is a household name, Emmy Award-Winning Talk Show Host!

However, I decided to decline the offer, and it was an easy decision for me to make.

What Was the Offer?

Here's the offer:

➼ 3-5 Min. Segment with Emmy Award-Winning Host

➼ Viewership 2,000,000 across Multiple Major Networks

➼ Rights to Segment Use Perpetually for Marketing

➼ Only $16,000

Now, some people "may" scoff at the price tag - $16,000 for only 5 minutes?

However, it's actually a pretty good offer when you look at other marketing, especially social media marketing.

➼ 1-20 seconds on Social Media Feed for an Unsolicited Ad

➼ Viewership 2,000,000 across devices

➼ Ad disappears, likely to be forgotten by most

➼ Only $13,400 (On Average, Depending on Audience)

So there IS value to paying for something like that.

It can actually be worth EXPONENTIALLY more than that if you utilize it well!

Why Say No?

Here are the questions that I asked to make the decision:

➼ Who is their Viewership?

➼ What Type of Other Content Do They Provide?

➼ How Valuable is the Endorsement to My Audience?

➼ What ROI should I Expect?

➼ What Other Opportunities Are Available for Me?

These can be asked for ANY opportunity presented.

Here are my answers:

➼ Day-Time TV, Targeting Women (My Audience = Business Leaders & Entrepreneurs Working During the Day, Not a Match)

➼ Health, Food, Family, Beauty & Style, Money (Some Similar Content, but Not Enough)

➼ Likely Minimal Value to My Audience (I Have Awards and Certifications More Valuable to My Audience)

➼ Likely Not Enough ROI for My Purposes

➼ Podcasting, Newsletters, Speaking Opportunities, Etc. (All Higher ROI directed to My Audience)

At the end of the day, it was an INCREDIBLE opportunity that I was truly honored to be asked about, but an opportunity that wasn't right for me.
