There are MANY ways people try to improve their Leadership.
However, when you look at "Leadership Development", it's an industry with an 80% failure rate. Within the "successful" leadership development programs, there are only "varied" levels of success. It's not a pretty picture.
It shows that Leadership Development fails at doing what it's meant to.
Why is that?
I have spent the past 3 years working on coming up with the reason because I saw the world needed Legendary Leaders. Everywhere we see Leadership failing. Truly we may be at an all-time leadership low.
It's not due to a lack of desire though - many people WANT to be better leaders.
But something is preventing them from that success, and it's actually really simple.
The problem is Mg-ATP, or simply "energy". It's what fuels every aspect of our lives. From our motivation and productivity, to our psychology, to our interactions with those we seek to lead.
Every aspect of Leadership success and failure comes down to our "Leadership Evolution", how we were designed by nature.
One of the greatest factors to fixing Mg-ATP is really simple - Eat differently! (But not in a "diety" way)
See, our food has a tremendous impact on our energy. When we eat certain things, the Mg part of energy reduces, our ability to make Mg-ATP decreases, and it creates stress. This stress then directly impacts how we interact with others, and along with some other factors, can dictate whether we succeed as leaders.
So what should we eat?
Actually, the better question is what we "shouldn't" be eating, and the research seems to come down to 3 main factors:
➼ Iron
➼ Sugar (By all 50 names that aren't made by nature)
➼ Vegetable Oils
These three items have a very insidious relationship, especially when combined.
No only do they reduce energy on their own, but they actually fuel each other toward worse outcomes.
Vegetable Oils weaken our Mitochondria (what creates Mg-ATP) which prevents them from creating the highest level of Energy. Our bodies NEED energy to survive, so turn to a "faster, less efficient" source of energy that can be made with weakened Mitochondria, aka Sugar, which is naturally addictive and doesn't require oxygen to produce (which impacts how we breathe, creating further stress). This extra oxygen then interacts with excess iron in our tissue to create Oxidative Stress, which pushes Mg out of our body, making it even more difficult to create energy while ALSO increasing our stress!
With this happening, our energy decreases and our stress increases.
Both of these prevent Leaders from getting into Flow States (where we feel our best and do our best work), because these states require massive amounts of energy and reduced stress.
This then directly impacts how well we can lead. The increased stressed literally gets passed on to our teams (through Neurocardiology), creating toxic work environments that people want to avoid (hence the push for working from home we are seeing). On top of this, we have less energy ourselves, which is needed not only for Flow States, but also to be able to anticipate and create a better future for our teams.
With the extra stress and energy, we become unable to Lead effectively.
So do yourself (and your team) a favor - reduce the iron, sugar, and vegetable oils in what you eat and see how it impacts your energy!
Of course, there is a lot more that can be done to improve your leadership, but this is a simple place to start!
