We ALL love quotes - myself included!
They are punchy, easy to understand, and make us feel great after we read them!
But... are they really all that helpful?
Let me give you an example.
"Success is simple. Do what's right, the right way, at the right time." - Arnold H. Glasow
Wow! This is so true!
Success is simple!
Of course, if we do what's right we'll succeed!
Doing things the right way definitely will create the success we want!
All good things come at the right time!
... Right?
But what does this even mean and how can we apply it?
Success is simple, but most people confuse "simple" and "easy".
How simple is simple?
Is it simple in design processes, in products, or in decision-making?
Doing what is right is a great goal we should all strive for!
But what does "right" even mean?
Different political parties constantly argue over what the definition of "right" means.
So do different countries.
So do different religions.
Even parents and children argue this idea.
The right way...
What is the "right" way?
Businesses often apply different "ways" of doing things, many of which end up being completely opposite ways!
Is one the "right" way, while the other is "wrong"?
But if that's so, then how are they both succeeding?
Plus what about all the organizations that follow the same "ways" but fail?
What about the "right" time?
Is "now" the right time?
There is a Chinese proverb that essentially says the best time to do something was ten years ago, and the second best time is now.
But was ten years ago really the best time?
What about the many inventions created ten years ago that completely flopped?
What about innovations people said would never work and are mainstream now?
What about innovations that took years for the public to adopt?
Also, whose success are we talking about?
Your success?
Your business' success?
Your team's success?
What about people who gain personal success at the expense of others?
Or businesses that thrive to success despite doing horrible things to their teams?
Or people whose businesses and teams are failing but seem to have personal success?
This is the problem - quotes are "nice", but it is impossible for them to REALLY get to the core challenges of getting to success.
Don't let your life be run by shallow quotes like so many people do.
Quotes alone won't create the success you desire.
