When I was 26, I was invited to join the Forbes Coaches Council.
By the time I was 27, I chose to leave the "Invitation-Only Organization For Senior-Level Executive" Coaches.
What made me decide to leave my association with one of the most prestigious business publications in the world?
There is a Difference between Elite and Legendary
One benefit of writing for the Forbes Coaches Council was the ability to take part in Expert Panels.
Essentially, Forbes poses a question to all of the coaches, asking them for their advice, best tips, etc.
Hundreds of Elite Coaches pose their answers, but 15 or fewer are chosen.
In looking at the answers that coaches submitted, I noticed a few things:
• Most answers were the same advice that has been given for decades
• Many of those same answers were outdated and didn't work
• Everyone had the same answers
My tactic was simple - What would be a novel answer to these questions that actually worked in today's world?
• In 3 months, I submitted 16 answers.
• In 3 months, my answers were chosen 16 times.
When You Beat the Game, It's Time to Create a New Game
That's what I decided to do.
I wanted to know why "Leadership Development" wasn't working, even though it was a $200 Billion+ Industry.
I wanted to know why we had so many "tried and true" ideas in leadership, yet leaders still dramatically struggled to have success.
I couldn't stay in a game that allowed these problems to persist.
I didn't want to be Elite, I chose to work toward Legendary.
