Stoicism for Losers and Slobs.

While we might not embrace stoicism to the fullest, it’s important to take a least a few principles to ensure that we are living a better life. Here are just a few of them that have made my life easier.

Be Kind to Yourself: I accept the flaws in my current state and I don’t judge myself for my short comings. I remind myself that I can try again and again until I get it right. I suck at pool and I lost my first pick up game last night. I took it as a learning experience, but I had fun. I patted myself in the back for not giving up so soon.

Amor Fati: Whatever obstacles come my way, I’m thrilled to conquer them. An 16-18 hour fast makes food more enjoyable. An objection at work helps me understand human behavior even more. Life is the greatest teacher.

The Virtue of Discipline: Whether I’m sick or healthy, every published post is a necessary win. One cheat meal a week is plenty. It might suck to do the work or to stick with the habit, but life doesn’t care about my whining. Discipline will make me stronger.

Momento Mori: The energy I have now in my 20’s will fade in 10-20 years. I might not make it to that age. Some ass hat could crash into me and take me away from my loved ones. I can’t take any free time for granted. It’s going to be used hanging with family/friends or to help me improve my craft.

Lean onto these principles when life is kicking your ass. You will come out on top or you’ll die trying.
