Clients often come to me looking to find peace in their lives. Like confidence, it often seems elusive, something to be searched out and strived for.
If you've been reading my previous essays you can probably guess what I'm going to say. But I'll say it anyway.
We are all innately peaceful.
That's our default state.
It's always there, no matter what's going on in our lives.
But sometimes we lose sight of it, just as we lose sight of the sun on a cloudy day.
We lose sight of it when we get up in our heads with worry, shame, blame, frustration, anxiety, stress.
We lose sight of it when are aggressive, unkind, belittling or rude.
We lose sight of it when we react instead of respond.
We lose sight of it when we are too tired.
And a thousand other ways.
But it never leaves us.
It's always there.
The way to have a peaceful life is to simply to stop doing the things that take you away from peace.
Next time you're about to give your peace away, ask yourself if it's worth it.
It's probably not. So protect your peace instead.
