4 Great Netflix Shows for Those Interested in Mental Wellness, Psychology, & Neurodiversity

TV Show 1: Understanding Neurodivergence Through "Atypical"

This show's main character, Sam Gardner, is on the spectrum.

I can't speak to how accurately the show displays autism. But it's a feel-good family sitcom that shows how Sam copes with school, relationships, and early adulthood. It also shows the parents' roles and what it's like to raise a kid on the spectrum.

TV Show 2: Exploring Adolescent Psychology In "Big Mouth"

This show is hit or miss.

I've had trouble getting friends into this show- for some, the jokes go too far. And I agree at times. But I'm fascinated with adolescence, LGBT themes, and more. Kroll uses lots of great allegories for puberty, mental health, and more.

It's one of the funniest shows I've ever seen- if you can tolerate the dirty jokes.

TV Show 3: Dive Into Criminal Psychology With "Mindhunter"

Who doesn't explore criminal psychology at least once in their life?

I'm super interested in criminals and their upbringing. This series gives detailed accounts of many criminals, helping you understand what goes through the minds of convicted felons.

TV Show 4: Relationships & Mental Health In "Sex Education"

This show is what we were missing in our 'growth and development' curriculum.

The main character, Otis, takes on the role of a therapist at his school after a lifetime of listening to his mom's advice to her clientele. It doesn't just explore relationships but mental health and modern issues in society, too, as Otis deals with his own issues.

The character development in this show is unmatched.
