After hearing about ship 30 for 30 from Twitter I decided to try their email course and it was eye-opening.
My takeaways from the course:
0. Writing Time
Dedicate a specific time every day to write to form a habit.
1. Write Junk
Give yourself permission to write as much junk as possible, you get to learn faster and build competence which evidently makes you better at writing and differentiating what is junk and what is not junk.
2. Create a Content Bucket
A content bucket contains the different categories that you would like to write within. This mainly comes after brainstorming ideas.
3. Overcoming Writer's Block
In order to overcome writer's block try to do something different like changing your environment or taking walks. Writing about not writing is another idea that makes you list out what you want to write about, why you think writing is hard and other things that you would rather do at the time.
Additionally, you can check your swipe file - where you stash things that inspire you- and practice copy work.
You can equally surround yourself with other creatives to get your creative juices running.
4. Headlines
To craft a good headline ask yourself three main questions:
a. What is the write-up about?
b. What audience are you targeting?
c. What promise are you making and how confident are you in your ability to deliver on it?
5. Golden Intersection
This is where you answer the reader's question while simultaneously telling them a personal story, the main point here is to ensure that your story has a takeaway.
6. Your Voice
Your voice is right here, it's not something you find. To learn which parts that work best for you, you need to publish more. This helps you understand what works and what does not.
