There are three topics I am actively thinking about a lot these days.
I've been interested in glue work since my friend Cassandra sent me a link to Tanya Reilly's talk on the subject.
Tanya says this about glue work:
Often it's skilled non-coding work
Skilled non-coding work can be the difference between success and failure.
It's expected work when you're a senior.
It's risky work when you're not.
I'll continue to learn more over the next few months to synthesise the concept with the following two ideas.
I first became interested in quiet quitting a couple of months ago. Around the same time, Cassandra sent me Tanya's talk, actually!
Another friend, Melissa this time, introduced me to it. Since then, I have learned it has several aspects to it:
People don't literally quit!
People are tired of putting in extra work for no recognition.
So they stick precisely to their job description.
It should be obvious why I'm into this one 😅
Specifically, I'm curious to know the different ways my peers describe and articulate Quality Engineering practice. Then I'll explore how it overlaps with the above topics.
I'm sure there's a relationship between these things. I'll explain my hunch more in my next post.
Until then!
