Startup founders, entrepreneurs, C-suite execs, and busy professionals tend to often struggle with building habits and skills.
But if you do not understand why you do whatever it is you do,
you will face procrastination
you will start and stop multiple times
you will feel both exhausted and frustrated with your lack of progress
If you nodded yes to these points, read along. I will try to some helpful advice to get you started.
Do you want to show it off or experience the benefits?
If your friends share cool gym selfies, it might motivate you to do the same.
If someone posts stunning designs in their journal, you might be tempted to start a journal of your own.
But are these motivations really yours?
Do you really want what that habit or skill contributes to people's lives?
For example, I am quite ashamed to admit that I am obese.
Even when I lost about 15 kilos, it didn't stick for long. I'm now back to 30+ BMI.
That's because my motivation was almost always external:
I wanted to have a 6-pack. I wanted to post thirst traps every day on Instagram.
Turns out - I never really wanted any of that. All I wanted was social validation. When I started getting that elsewhere, my desire to be an IG model faded quickly.
You don't need a system to get started
"Set systems not goals" spread within habit-building communities like wildfire.
Not wildfire - I call it a virus!
It makes people think that you need to take a course or have an elaborate routine before starting anything.
This becomes a limiting belief.
The desire to get started turns into a shock once you realize everything you need to do before getting started.
So you never start.

Habits don't have to be any more complicated than:
You do it once, then you do it again and again.
So find that ONE action that needs repeating.
