Here's my review 🧵 for @bianca_oli_per Build Your Knowledge Portfolio course.

As a Ph.D. candidate, writer, and creative, I consume plenty of information from various sources.

In a quest to better manage these information, I stumbled into the world of PKM.

After taking the Building A Second Brain course in October 2021, I have benefitted from implementing the PARA and CODE frameworks in my work system.

However, I have since been looking to build a knowledge management system that supports idea management and output.

I wanted a system that could let me

  1. Capture and process the knowledge I am consuming

  2. Make connections with my prior knowledge

  3. Build and expand on previous knowledge

  4. Allow room for serendipity to happen

In short, I want to build a knowledge repository that I can consistently create and curate for my future self and projects.

So I was intrigued when I learned about Bianca Pereira’s course Build Your Knowledge Portfolio.

Before signing up, I had a one-on-one chat with@bianca_oli_per where I learned her focus on developing the right PKM mindsets in the process of building a knowledge portfolio.

This was refreshing.

In the PKM world, many are easily distracted by the note-taking or productivity tool.

But in Bianca’s world, PKM mindsets precedes PKM tools when it comes to building a knowledge portfolio.

So what is a knowledge portfolio? and how can it serve us?

A knowledge portfolio

  • Demonstrates our collection of knowledge.

  • A place to grow, connect, and contrast new knowledge with prior knowledge.

  • A powerful repository to tap into for insights and output

The Build Your Knowledge Portfolio course meets my needs of learning the fundamentals of PKM mindsets instead of just learning a particular note-taking tool.

More importantly, I wanted to learn the process of creating a knowledge portfolio.

In August 2022, I became one of the participants in the Building Your Knowledge Portfolio (Beta).

For four weeks, we learned how to manage our ideas, process the information (or literature), grow and curate our knowledge, and build our knowledge portfolio

Aside from live curriculum sessions, we also had co-working sessions where we got to practice building our knowledge portfolio.

We also get to see what others have in their knowledge portfolio.

There were so much content that I had to go back to review the entirety of the course content.

I am highly impressed with Bianca's work in the course as she turns a highly complex content into bite-size and easy to apply knowledge.

Aside from teaching PKM mindsets, Bianca also demonstrates various strategies in different stages of information processing.

These include free-writing strategies, reading strategies, and note-making framework.

If all these resonated with you, The Build Your Knowledge Portfolio (Gamma Group) will start onboarding on November 14, 2022.

Live and co-working sessions will run from November 18 - December 9.

To fully benefit from participating in the course, here are some beneficial expectations going in:

  • adopt the idea of PKM mindsets > PKM tools

  • experiment and build amidst discomfort

  • know that your knowledge portfolio will be different and uniquely yours

I am also excited to return as an alumni where I want to continue building my knowledge portfolio and meet like-minded individuals.

It's so enriching to flock together with a community that enjoys learning and shares the same goal of building our own knowledge portfolios.
