A Lesson I Can't Forget From Oprah Winfrey's Talk After 10 Years

It was more than 10 years ago when I heard this lesson from Oprah Winfrey. It made such an impact on me, I'll never forget:

"Take Responsibility For The Energy You Bring Into This Space"

These are not Oprah's words.

They belong to Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor. So, who is Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor?

She's a brain scientist from Harvard who went through something incredibly intense—a stroke that shut down the entire left side of her brain. This left her unable to speak, and she had to rely completely on the energy around her to understand her new world.

Dr. Taylor’s experience was eye-opening. If a doctor or nurse connected with her, whether through a gentle touch or a kind tone, she felt comforted. But if they ignored her and focused only on their charts or machines, she felt scared and confused. It all came down to the energy they brought into the room.

When Dr. Taylor shared this insight, it really hit home for Oprah and for me too. The idea is simple: the energy we bring into any space affects the people around us. A smile, a kind gesture, or just being present can create a positive atmosphere. On the flip side, negativity or neglect can make others feel uneasy or isolated.

This lesson has made me more aware of how I interact with others. It's a reminder that our presence matters and that being mindful of the energy we bring can make a big difference. It's all about creating a compassionate and positive environment for everyone around us.
