When you don’t want to do something, it feels impossible.
It feels easy when you deeply desire it, no matter how much work it takes.
Developing your desire is the most important step to achievement. Once you do that, everything else flows effortlessly.
Here are four ways to grow your desire:
Do It For Love
For discipline to have purpose, it must be combined with love. Love is the motivator behind our discipline.
They are two sides of a coin. Love is empty without the discipline to act on it. Discipline is aimless without love to motivate and direct its pursuits.
Work For Something
When you’re acting against something, you’re fighting it and trying to destroy it.
When you’re acting for something, you’re working to grow and build something meaningful.
Work for something, not against something. The results are better and you enjoy it more, too.
Control Your Attention
We don’t have to force ourselves to pay attention. It’s not an act of will.
Rather, it’s suspending our attention towards other things and quieting our thoughts.
When our minds are quiet, awareness of God’s presence is what’s left.
Discover Your Deepest Desires
Our deepest desires are God-given. When you see past the surface, you understand that God puts desire in our hearts to follow His will.
These desires are to help others and positively impact the world using our unique skills and experiences. Following God’s will gives us a deep sense of meaning and fulfillment in life.
“Life is shaped by the end you live for. You are made in the image of what you desire.” - Thomas Merton
