People say storytelling builds deeper connections, but I'd think, "My life's too boring. I don't have any good stories."
But here's the thing: we all have great stories; we just forget them!
So I learned a simple strategy (thanks Vinh Giang) for building my own bank of stories to share.
Here are the 2 ways:
Document it
I journal stories that move me - whether from books, movies, podcasts or my own life epiphanies. Whenever something tugs my heartstrings, gives me major a-ha's or sticks in my memory, I jot down the meaningful highlights.
This stockpiles inspiring bits to sprinkle into future conversations.
Use fax roll strategy
This timeline reflection lists accomplishments and milestones. For example, each year from 2010 to 2020, I recorded proud moments, interesting adventures, and meaningful memories.
These become story fodder!
Now I have a go-to collection I can pick stories from based on my friends or my close ones. The key is including sensory details and conveying why the story resonated.
Give it a try! Documenting your journey makes for great relatable tales.
