Day 21 - Composing Concertinos
Andy Sporring

I love the smaller and more intimate format that a Concertino gives me as a composer. It provides both the solo instrument and the string orchestra enough space to tease and grow.

So the first thing I composed when I got back to composing was a concertino.

My Concertinos Until Now (August 2024)

  • Clarinet Concertino - Solictice (2022)

  • Viola Concertino No. I (2023)

  • Violoncello Concertino - 'In To The Silence And Out Of The Darkness' (2023)

  • Piano Concertino No. I (2023-24)

  • Guitar Concertino - ‘The Early Morning Dew’ (2024)

  • Concertino For Organ, Timpani And Strings (2023-?) (Only first movement is finished)

  • I’ve started on concertinos for:

    • Flute

    • Oboe

    • Basson

    • Horn

These instruments I have ideas for:

  • Trumpet

  • Trombone

  • Tuba

  • Harp

  • Harpsichord

  • Contrabass

  • Nyckelharpa (Swedish traditional instrument)

  • Percussion

It’s pretty exciting to look at this list, I feel so inspired! I only hope I can fulfill my dream to compose a concertino for each instrument.
