In 2017, I moved to Nicaragua...

with just a backpack and a dream. I was going to become a "traveling writer guy." Up to then, I rejected the traditional pathways to meaning presented to me in the little town where I grew up.

I didn't want to get married and have kids and get some job I hated. There had to be a better way, and I was going to prove it!

Two weeks into the trip, my first (and to this day only) panic attack descended upon me in the witching hour of the night during my dreams. My greatest fears swirled around me like a cyclone.

"No one is ever going to love you, so you are going to die alone."

"You are never going to find the profession you were born to do, so you are going to be a loser forever."

All I wanted was meaning, to feel what I did mattered, that my existence made some difference. Then, all at once, the epiphany happened: the meaning I wanted came as a result of the responsibility I was avoiding.

There I was in a foreign land where no one knew me or cared I was there. I started the trip with the savings from the business I had just exited, so I didn't need to earn money. I could do whatever I wanted.

Sounds like pure freedom, right? For me, it was perfect hell. I needed to be needed. I needed to carry some load. I needed to love and to be loved. But I was terrified of making the wrong choice, of loving the wrong person or spending my life in the wrong profession.

My second greatest fear was getting trapped inside the wrong career or the wrong marriage. My greatest fear was disappointing others. These fears mixed together to create an elixer for inaction, a cocktail for stagnation.

The grand irony was that these fears were going to bring about precisely the future I wanted most to avoid if I didn't do something.

So I went in search of a program that would help me discover my purpose, find my place in the world. Everywhere I looked, all I found were shallow platitudes.

"Follow your bliss"

"Chase your passion"

But I didn't know what I wanted! I needed help figuring it out!

All I had was the intuitive whisper I could hear in those moments of serenity saying,

" you are meant for more than this"

"your soulmate is waiting on you to become the man she deserves"

"there is a career only you can build, if you will only find it."

I spent the years after Nicaragua following that whisper as best I could.

Until one day it told me exactly what I had to do.

"Your purpose is to build an operating system to help others like you find and live their unique purpose," said the whisper. And I knew it was right, as it always is.

Read these words carefully:

You are on Earth for a reason. Everything you do matters. There is some person out there meant for your love and with whom you are supposed to build a life. There is some professional work that you are perfectly suited to carry out.

There is a special bundle of responsibilities out there in the future waiting for you to gather up enough courage to find it. I call that bundle your unique purpose.

When you find that unique purpose and earn the opportunity to carry those unique responsibilities, you will give and receive more love than ever before. You will feel more joy, more courage, more peace, more kindness.

I am building Purpose OS to deliver you to that place. It is an operating system for purpose.

Operating systems in computers are the interface between the user and the hardware. You are the user. Your environment is the hardware. All your suffering comes from running the wrong operating system.
