If you don't have the amount of influence you deserve, there are two reasons: you are either serving the wrong people or serving people in the wrong way.

You're married to the wrong person, or not married but want to be, or in the wrong job, or too afraid to start the business you have bundled up safely inside you, or avoiding that book you know you need to write.

Purpose is serving the right people in the right ways.

You won't find the right people to serve and the right ways to serve them by accident. You have to iterate your roles and responsibilities. It's the only way.

Arrive

If you have the courage to leave the wrong responsibilities behind in pursuit of the right ones, one day you will arrive at your unique purpose. And you will know it.

It will feel permanent. You will want to put down roots.

In many ways, this is when life truly begins. Mark Twain's at-this-point-cliche quote rings true: "The two most important days of your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why."

True influence is only possible after arrival.

Once you put your roots down into your unique purpose, you will want everyone you love to feel the joy, meaning, and peace that you feel. The people who know you will feel your sincere desire for them to experience what you are experiencing. And they will follow you.
