15 INVALUABLE TRAITS THAT MAKE A GOOD MENTOR GREAT
Perhaps the single most important thing to do as you grow in your leadership is to grow your support network. Leadership needn't be lonely. And when you grow your network and gather people around to support you, you'll lead with more ease and grow faster.
There's a range of conversations you can adopt with people, from Consulting through to Coach-like, with everything in between. What varies between them is the mix and amount of two different components. Task orientation, and relationship orientation.
Mentoring is an invaluable source of 1:1 support and development. It has lots in common with Coach-like conversations and also attaches greater value to the personal experience and opinion of the mentor.
Mentoring is high on relationship orientation, with a little task orientation/expertise added to the mix. It's a little down the scale from pure coaching (zero task orientation, full focus on the human being and an empowered relationship).
As with everything, there's a gap that separates good from great.

I feel privileged to have benefited from some great mentors.
