Good Leaders know they don't solve problems. Good leaders make space for acts of leadership.

Today we face the most challenging problems we've ever seen.

If we are to progress with these challenges we need for everyone to bring their best thinking each and every day. To give voice to that thinking in loud and crowded spaces. Ideas, not people, being debated and argued with intellectual rigor to co-create from what is possible.

And in this daily work there is a need, for leadership at all levels, regardless of title.

Acts of leadership come from a sense of purpose.

Leadership is the actions of individuals, taken in service of moving a team closer to its goals. Leadership comes in all shapes and sizes. The spectrum of possibility is wide. Big acts of leadership and countless small acts of leadership.

The best Leaders create safe space and invite participation from all.

Observe the small acts of leadership you see around you, and notice their impact (on you, and others).

Small Acts of Leadership

  • keeping time in meetings

  • advocating for someone else's quiet voice

  • taking time to connect at a human level

  • asking a busy/stressed colleague what they need

  • interrupting to check conversations are on track

  • giving feedback from a place of vulnerability

  • saying 'no' to requests

  • asking for help

  • asking the 'dumb' questions (there are no dumb questions)

  • naming the elephant in the room (saying what needs to be said)

  • acknowledging others positive contributions, behaviors, qualities of being.

What acts of leadership do you see?
