Welcome to my Social Blog
Want to make films but doesn't know where to start? If so, this article is for you.
5 years ago I changed careers moving into film. I learnt by doing these kind of exercises - making lots of stuff and posting this journey on YouTube. As a result, today, I am a full time film maker.
Here are three ideas for short films to get you started. All you need is your phone.
Idea 1 - The One Room Challenge
Thanks for this goes to Brandon Li.
Create a story, using just one room. Focus on three beats - the beginning, middle and end. Then join the dots between these 3 points.
TIP :- Look at what props are in the room. How can they help make the story interesting?
Idea 2 - The Three Line Challenge
All you have is the following script.
Character 1: Do you want tea?
Character 2: I should go.
Character 3: I just can't believe it.
TIP 1 :- Figure out a back story for each of your characters and their relationship to each other.
TIP 2 :- Create 5 potential scenarios to fit around the dialogue. See how far you can push these. Choose the best one. (or make all 5!)
Idea 3 - The Location As The Protagonist
Choose a place that evokes a feeling in you - excitement, sadness, tranquillity.
Shoot footage that captures this for your audience.
TIP 1 :- Use music and sound effects to enhance this for your audience.
TIP 2 :- The pacing of your editing will play a large part in the feelings you share with the audience.
Go do all three of these. Just make them. You will then have three credits to your name and will have learnt loads!
