Stepping Out There as an Online Content Creator - Day 1 (Sort of)
Tim Krywulak

I recently signed up for Dickie Bush & Nicolas Cole's cohort-based course, Ship 30 for 30. Here are a few reasons why.

Practicing Online vs. Academic Writing

Having completed a PhD in History, I've done my share of academic writing. But online writing is a different thing. I think that I have the potential to become good at it. Yet, to get there, I'll have to show up consistently and put in the work. That's where this course comes in.

Getting the Content Flywheel Churning

One of the things I love about Dickie and Nicholas's course is that it aligns so well with the way I was trained to think about writing as an applied research consultant: with the use of structures, templates, processes, manageable chunks, etc.

Because of that, I think this course will be an excellent way for me to "keep up" with producing and publishing ideas. As a bonus, the "Atomic Essay" format (~250-300 words) is a great way to test ideas before investing in creating more extended versions of that content.

Building the Vision in Public

Most successful content creators have a "unifying vision" that ties all their content sub-themes together. This vision signals to readers why this content is for them and what they can get out of it, which is typically some "transformation" that gets readers from A to B.

I don't have one - yet. But I think there is "something there" for me, maybe around helping people who are professionals or business people who want to build a brand by leveraging a podcast/YouTube channel and other social media platforms.

How would I know anything about that?

Well, I've already been doing it for the past two years.

Check it out on my podcast website.

Join me on this adventure! I'm excited to start sharing what I'm learning.

I won't be a "daily shipper," but I'll send regular posts over the next few weeks.
