Is AI a friend or foe for content creators and creative industries?

That's the question I discussed with my fellow panelists and host today at the Helen and Arch Brown Design and Digital Arts Center in downtown Barrie, Ontario

The session was hosted by Keith Connell, faculty in our Digital Content Creation and Strategy program.

The class featured an innovative format, including a podcast. Students not only engaged with the discussion but also got involved in learning how to set up and deliver a live podcast show like the one in question.

From my perspective, it's a bit of both.

I use AI for helping with my podcast, not so much in the core content, but more in all the other things that go into producing and promoting the show (e.g., audio editing, podcast clips). I wouldn't be able to do all that I do without the help of AI and automation software.

However, I can also see how it can create barriers for creators who can't access the most advanced tools, and I do worry about the impact it may have on the development of students' fundamental skills (which is the foundation for leveraging AI to its fullest extent).
