Last week, I attended my good friend's art exhibition on campus.

As a graduate student in the Master of Arts in Graphic Design program, she is required to produce a creative project that would go on display to the university community as a culmination of her studies.

During the exhibition, I was more intrigued with the process book that was displayed next to the artwork.

In a nutshell, the process book contains information on
the purpose of the creative project
the audience of the creative project
what were the initial questions, framework, and concepts
what were the barriers
how did the creative project change direction
what were the takeaways from the culmination of the project

Reading each process book made me realize that

we can never predict how a creative project would end
barriers are necessary pivots to shift the creative direction to where it needs to be
every creative project is a humbling endeavor

I can see how the process book is equally important as the final product because it is an intentional practice to capture the evolution of one's thinking. It is a valuable reflection practice because it makes the artist articulates the creative process rather than just keeping the process to the self. More importantly it also creates a lasting impression with the audience who walk away with higher appreciation for the artwork.
