Document, don’t create.
I was immediately struck by this simple idea shared by Ali Abdaal, a former doctor and now full-time YouTuber, course creator, and many more.
In his video How To Build A Website in 2022, Abdaal dropped a bombshell on how people tend to overthink their content creation, mainly what they want to write for their website. As a result, most people are deterred from writing after the excitement of setting up the website subsided.
Abdaal then shared the idea of Document, Don’t Create, and credited Gary Vee, renown media entrepreneur who came up with the line.
The idea is when we document what we did or experienced, writing content becomes more effortless.
We tend to overlook and discredit our personal experiences, but there is always something worth sharing from our current position. Be it sharing a personal review on a great podcast or tips to cook a meal.
Even Ship30’s Idea Generating Machine prescribes the method of the two-year test. We could write for the person we were two years back from today about the things we have learned along the way.
Creating content is a long-haul game. There is no destination. At the beginning of the journey, it's all about volume. It's in the doing that the learning happens. And through repetition, we get better.
