3 Obstacles Managers Need to Know Working with ADHD Employees
Obstacle #1 Procrastination - Getting things done can be a problem for people with ADHD. This generally takes the form of, "This is a good idea, I want or need to do this but, I don't have time to do it right now so I'll do it later." Later never comes. Give them a clear deadline.
Obstacle #2 Interest - People with ADHD have two speeds. Full on rabbit hole (hyper focus) or meh... The state in which they operate is genuinely driven by novelty and urgency.
•
Special assignments with deadlines
•
Use AI to help them automate and handle mundane work.
•
Recognition, give them purpose something they can be proud of. The work becomes a point of pride and triggers that delicious dopamine hit.
Obstacle #3 Distraction - when someone with ADHD gets distracted it triggers an automatic focus reset. Distractions are incredibly frustrating for them and ruin their ability to get things done quickly. Give them space and make sure they have a space if working remote.
Understanding these 3 obstacles is key to working with them successfully.
