How good feedback should feel or look like:

1. make you go ouch

2. different people point out same problem in different instances

3. make you wanna get better

🧡

Earlier this month, I started approaching people via DM to ask for feedback

On my outlines before I even start drafting

One comment went

"Is this an outline for 1 essay?"

"Or 4?"

Ouch

But that's how good feedback should feel like

Now feedback on drafts

2nd person on different 2nd piece

"Instead of giving me 1 piece of advice, I ended up with 9"

3rd person on 3rd piece

"Consider framing the entire newsletter around this section out of the 3"

1 is an accident. 2 is a coincidence. 3 is a pattern.

After every major rewrite after feedback, I showed it again just to be sure

"Whoa! What an improvement!"

"Now I understand what you're saying"

Easy to say feedback's wrong (sometimes true)

Easy to accept feedback blindly (but lose your voice)

What's hard is to get better

Again, good feedback should

1. make you go ouch

2. have same problem pointed out by different people in different instances

3. make you wanna get better

If you like the above

I'm trying new things and learning, or

you're curious about other stupid mistakes I've made,
