It's Not the Right Things to Do
Malcom Brown

The three words that make me nervous.

In any one-on-one meeting.

Chatham House Rule.

It's usually said by the superior in the room.

And it's normally an attempt to generate some criticism of a colleague or, more likely, another superior.

Criticism without retribution.

Definition: When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed.

I clam up. I'm not playing.

I don't 'dump' on others without saying the same to them face to face.

It's unethical.

I lose respect for the other person.

They're setting up an environment of gossip and behind-the-back chatter.

Chatham House Rule?

Run a mile.
